Meeting with Darren Peters and Cr Ricky Kirkham
We had the pleasure of the attendances of two exceptional young men, who have been working hard for our community, at our previous meeting on 16 December.
First, Darren Peters from the South Morang and Mernda Rail Alliance was here to give an update on the Mernda Rail extension. So far there is no absolute decision yet to build the second station at Marymede or Hawkstowe. There is a suggestion from PTV that they might built an overhead bridge over Bridge Inn Rd but the alliance will be lobbying in particular for a crossing under Bridge Inn Rd, to preserve Mernda’s rural feel. Both Darren Peters and the City of Whittlesea are lobbying for the train line to be underground at all crossings.
Next, Cr Kirkham gave the latest report on the issues of Yan Yean and Findon Roads, the progress of the Mernda Town Centre and the Coles development on Bridge Inn Road. An aquatic centre feasibility study will be done in 2017. Current cost estimate is $23 million.
