New President and Treasurer of MADRA

We would like to welcome Tom Joseph as our new president. We look forward to serving the community with him, in partnership with the residents of Mernda.
We would like to thank our outgoing president, Michael Bradley for his many years of service to MADRA and the community.

Lesley Chan Herlihy has also been elected to replace Graeme Bushby as treasurer for the 2015/16 committee. Graeme took over the Treasurer position from Warrick Peters following the AGM in April 2015. We thank Warrick Peters again for his long service with MADRA and Graeme for stepping in to fill the position at short notice.

As of 15th July 2015, the new committee are:

President: Tom Joseph

Secretary: Brian Herlihy

Treasurer: Lesley Chan Herlihy

Committee members: Sandy Wallis

Graeme Bushby

Have your say on law and order issues for Mernda and surrounds

Acting Senior Sergeant Jason Gaffee visited MADRA for the monthly meeting last week (3rd Weds of each month) at the Mernda Village Community Activity Centre.

He is looking for feedback from residents about law and order issues in the Whittlesea City Council area, particularly in Mernda and the surrounding areas, where the new police station is being planned. Knowing what residents would like addressed will help when considering which specialised teams to base in the Mernda station.

He also updated the MADRA committee on the progress of plans towards the establishment of a 24 hour police station in Mernda in the very near future, and staffing levels required.
Gaffee is keen to understand community priorities for policing, and can be contacted on 9716 2102. MADRA is also happy to pass on any concerns.

He also let us know that he is asking his officers to be available to chat with the community, so if you see some police sitting and having a coffee, stop by and have a chat!

MADRA members thank Acting Senior Sergeant Gaffee for his time and interest in visiting community groups, and for being committed to having the police involved in the community.

Mernda Community Fair 2015

Preparations for the 3rd annual Mernda Community Fair to be held on Sunday 29th March 2015 are well underway!  The previous two events attracted thousands to the center of Mernda Villages to find out about what’s happening in their local community, and to take part in the great free and cheap activities on the day!  There will be something for everyone, with fun and entertainment for all ages.  Local community, sports and dance groups will be in attendance, and we will have a market area with a wide variety of goods for sale.  Music and performances will be running throughout the day, as well as free balloon art, and super cheap pony rides and face painting.

This year the YMCA will be bringing their mobile skate ramp and providing free clinics, right in the middle of Mernda Villages!  Skateboards will be provided.  We also have extreme mountain bike demonstrations from an Australian Mountain Bike Trials champion, petting zoo, reptile display, fire engine rides, classic cars display, and more!

If you are interested in having a stall please complete the online Stallholder application form.  We encourage all local community organizations and businesses to get involved, including sports, dance, self defence, schools, and local businesses.

Date: Sunday 29th March 2015
Time: 1 pm to 5 pm

Mernda Community Fair 2015 Announcement

MADRA is pleased to announce that the 3rd Mernda Community Fair will be taking place on March 29th, 2015 from 1pm to 5pm! The first two Town Fairs in 2012 and 2013 provided a great family event for Mernda and the surrounding suburbs, with plenty of free entertainment, including the very popular Empire FMX bikes doing stunts in the middle of Mernda Villages Drive, and performances and demonstrations from local groups on the main stage. The last Town Fair attracted 5,000 people, and this year we hope to make it even bigger!

If you are interested in having a stall please complete the online Stallholder application form. Stalls will include community groups, food vendors, sports, dance, schools, as well as a market area.

We are also looking for sponsors to help play a part in making this the biggest community day in the Mernda area! Major sponsors will be credited in all promotional material, and all supporters will be listed on our website and Facebook, as well as appearing on flyers on the day. If you would like to help out, either as a cash sponsor or an in-kind donation, please contact us at communitylife@madra.org.au

We hope to see you all there :)
